Editorial

Throughout my work you will see a consistency of simplicity often accompanied with symmetrical elements within the design. As a designer, and as a photographer I like things simple; for example, I like type that's fun but that you can read upon first look rather than having to spend 5 minutes working it out, or in my case often giving in and asking the person sat next to you.

Editorial design for me ticks all the boxes, it can be experimental but always seems to have a flowing feeling, a neatness to the pages.

'Neon'

The brief given consisted of picking one of three names: 'Lite', 'Brick' or 'Neon' and to create a magazine logo, a front page and at least 2 double page spreads.
I chose the name of 'Neon'. When designing the logo I wanted it to be simple but have impact; I settled on the below design however, there is the added detail that with each issue the contents of the 'N' would change. I.e. In the second issue there may be an illustration within the shape to indicate it's an illustration edition, or that their featured piece is on the shown subject.

I chose my magazine to have a square format as it works particularly well for landscape photography when fully opened. Similarly it gives a well designed look to the piece and replicates the design of other popular magazines such as Creative Review.

All articles contain my own photography and my own 'stories'.
